Uber den Künstler

Hvidt was born in 1916 in Denmark, he studied at the school of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen, where he later became teacher. After he received his degree in architecture and cabinetmaking, he worked for various design firms. In 1942 set up his own studio together with Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen, they created furniture in the mid century Danish modern style.

Hvidt designed the Portex chair, the first Danish stacking chair. He mostly designed traditional furniture with a small manipulation of the standards. The company of Hvdit and Mølgaard-Nielsen received international fame with their AX chair. The AX chair in combination with the AX table were part in the exhibition "Good Design" in the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1951. After the production of this chair Hvidt continued designing together with Mølgaard-Nielsen until he died in 1986.
