Hassan Massoudy is an Iraqi artist who was born in Najef in 1944. He moved to Baghdad in 1961, where he studied graphic design and fine art. He settled in Paris in 1969 where he enrolled in the École des Beaux-Arts. Massoudy was inspired by Arabic artists and European artists like Leger, Matisse, Soulages and Picasso. After graduating from the art academy, he started experimenting with calligraphy, employing classical styles in a new manner. Since 1972 he had been touring throughout Europe for thirteen years where he combined music, poetry and calligraphy in his Arabesque performance. Peace and tolerance are important themes in her work. As a consequence, he worked with various charity organisations, including Amnesty International, UNICEF and other organisations.
